scs787
He'd be a great pickup if we can clear the money. He won't come at the 3M people were predicting awhile ago but whatever it takes he could be worth it.

killakrzydav
I heard that he wanted the WR franchise tag. He's going to be out of our price range unfortunately.
Guest TerraTor
We are currently paying Kellen Davis 3.85M (2.40salary)
bowlingtwig
I heard that he wanted the WR franchise tag. He's going to be out of our price range unfortunately. He wanted WR tag because he lined up as a TE only 26% of the time and according to CBA he could make a very compelling case that he's a WR. Samething with Aaron hernandez and jermicheal finley. The NFLPA were getting ready to fight all those cases if the tag was placed

AZ54
He could get WR money but if he does it will be a contract similar to what we gave Bennett. After watching what we got from our $2.5-3mil to Kellen Davis I'd say that's ok. Bennett's deal was done with a lot of incentives Cook will probably want more upfront and less incentives but still reasonable. The combination of Cook and Rodriguez should be a good mix especially with Rodriguez already having spent some time in the FB role (poorly used H-back IMO). I think Trestman will take care of that. http://chicago.sbnation.com/chicago-bears/...nnett-extension Grab a good OG in FA and we look good going into the draft. It completely removes TE from the draft needs IMO as we can go with Spaeth, Cook, Rodriguez. I'm not sure we could do much more than this as we need to sign two FA LB -- either Url/Roach or Roach plus another FA LB. Emery definitely keeps a lid on rumors as I can't believe we are not renegotiating some contracts right now.
bradjock
He'd be a great pickup if we can clear the money. He won't come at the 3M people were predicting awhile ago but whatever it takes he could be worth it. Except he's a terrible blocker. Mike Martz wanted TE's as a 6th blocker and wasn't concerned about receiving. Mike Tice wanted TE's who could do both but unfortunatley, Kellen Davis couldn't do much of either. I wonder what Trestman wants? As far as I know, he hasn't said much other than you don't need to draft a TE in the first round (which makes you wonder if we'll draft a TE in the first round). On a side note, I'm kind of surprised we have neither cut nor restructured Kellun Davis yet.
Bears4Ever_34
I'm a fan of Jared Cook. My original off-season plan was to sign him and Andy Levitre. Don't think that's possible now given the cap issues, but he's certainly an intriguing guy to look out for come free agency.

madlithuanian
from PFT... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...-to-jared-cook/ Bears expected to make an offer to Jared Cook Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2013, 12:31 PM EST AP After tight end/slot receiver Jared Cook wasn’t given the franchise tag by the Titans, the speculation has begun about where Cook will end up in free agency. And much of that speculation is centered in Chicago. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Cook is expected to draw interest from the Bears, who could use another weapon in their passing game after a 2012 season in which Brandon Marshall caught 118 passes but no one else even managed 45 catches. Kellen Davis has been the Bears’ starting tight end for the last two seasons but has just 229 and 206 receiving yards in the last two seasons. Cook, who had 523 receiving yards last year and 759 in 2011, would be a significant upgrade over Davis. Although the Titans are expected to make an offer to keep Cook, he’s likely to get a bigger offer somewhere else. That “somewhere” may be Chicago. Bears are reportedly interested. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000014...ago-bears-radar

balta1701-A
What's the schedule like for the Bears in terms of money paid out to Davis? Is there a deadline for when he needs to be cut to avoid a bonus payout of any sort?

Cook isn't a terrible blocker, particularly for an athletic, pass-catching TE. He's also the Titans 2012 Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner, so he's a quality guy. He's also never--even in college--played with a strong QB, so he's got lots of potentially untapped potential--he ran a 4.4 40 and benched 20+ times at the combine. I think he would be a tremendous add. As for Emery's plans for TE--he did say he expects his TE to be well-rounded and contribute as a blocker. bradjock
I'm skeptical. This sounds like something that is agent driven. For years the Bears had the worst WR's in football so every time one was available, he was rumored to be going to the Bears. Does any team have worse TE's than the Bears? Last year at this time all the talk was that the Bears were going to make a run Mario Williams. While it was true we wanted to upgrade the DE position and made a big offer to Mincey, there was no way we were coming close to Mario Williams. With two big WR's on the roster in BM and Jeffery, I just don't see us prioritizing the TE position. from PFT... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...-to-jared-cook/ Bears expected to make an offer to Jared Cook Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2013, 12:31 PM EST AP After tight end/slot receiver Jared Cook wasn’t given the franchise tag by the Titans, the speculation has begun about where Cook will end up in free agency.
