ASHKUM BEAR
With the loss of Melton, DT just became a little higher priority for adding talent. I scoped out a couple mock sites and put a wish list together. This coming offseason will be a handful for Emery and Meltons injury just added to that pressure. Rd 1 Timmy Jennigan DT FSU 6-2 298 Fits the mold of a 3T tackle the Bears look for, quick burst, disruptive. Rd 2 Justin Gilbert CB Ok SU 6-0 194 CB with size and experience. Rd 3 Hroniss Grasu C Oregon 6-3 294 Quick/athletic, also a great run blocker for Oregon's fast paced attack. Chip Kelly will also be looking for his anchor to make the line calls. Rd 4 Barrett Jackson CB ND 6-0 185 Another CB with some size and experience. Rd 5 Chuckie Keeton QB Utah 6-2 200 He is being compared to Russell Wilson, but Keeton is mobile, quick, can pass from the pocket or on a roll and is very accurate. His completion percentage is upper 60's and his Int's are always low.

ASHKUM BEAR
Wow, were 3-0 and we're talking about the draft? I look at players year round, just like the Bears scouting department is doing. You don't think they will take a closer/deeper look at the DT's now that Melton tore the ACL? I don't expect Melton back, he is undersized and needs the speed/burst to be effective. That may never come back with the injury. The guy I put in there looks like a possible 3T tackle with the same measurables.

It almost seems certain now that they will go DE, CB, or DT in round 1 and 2. I will say though that I'd love to see D'Anthony Thomas as a Bear. He's an immediate upgrade over Hester at KR and PR and can play a lot of offense.

scs787
With only 1 game a week there's not much to talk about during the week so I see no harm in looking at the future to kill some time. A guy I like, and it pains me to say this as ND basher, is Stephon Tuitt. Both of CBSs mock drafts have him going to the Bears and I would agree with that pick. While I hate ND I still have watched plenty a games and I'm really fond of Tuitt, wish he was reeking havok in Evanston for my Wildcats. I see him being able to play the 3T or DE, and both could be a problem next year.

If he's there I wouldn't hesitate taking him either. Another prospect with nice size/speed is DE Aaron Lynch of South Florida. He transferred out of ND to play closer to home. He should be a late RD1 consideration

Guest TerraTor
I dont dislike. However, we are in desparate need of a Safety I think DT in later rounds always seem to work out better With the loss of Melton, DT just became a little higher priority for adding talent. I haven't looked close at that route but if a stud is around I have no problems with that. I think Emery would go that route too since he was around when KC took Berry. IF Wright were to go, why couldn't the team entertain the idea of putting Tillman in at Safety? Ala Charles Woodson? I know Tillman is probably seriously thinking retirement but maybe this would encouage him to stick around? And with the development of Frey maybe he could move into Tillman's vacated spot? Just a thought. And FWIW, Wright and Conte have been doing pretty well. Wright has been doing some effective tackling and had one pick six in the last game. And Conte had one INT and more near INT in the last game. I think a lot of the reason the teams the Bears have faced have been able to get sustained drives is due to the middle field coverage. That respoonsibility falls on the LB's not the Safeties. TIllman and Jennings so far have been sporadic and its no secret that the front four have been slow on their pressure. ASHKUM BEAR
Not much has changed in my draft thoughts. I'd be looking at going the same route. 1 DT Ra'Shede Hageman Minnesota - love if he's availabe (Timmy Jernigan DT FSU #2) 2 CB Justin Gilbert OK St- size/speed combo and can play man 3 SS Ed Reynolds Stanford 4 C Hroniss Grasu Oregon-Need youth/strength added inside 5 WR Brandin Cooks Oregon St-slot rec 6 CB Wayne Lyons Stanford-more size/speed. 6 QB Bryn Renner NC- accuarate pocket QB development prospect

I've got nothing to back this up, but I think Paea is fine for a nose tackle. Those guys don't put up big numbers. They are replaying the game at 3 o clock on NFL network and I'm gonna take a look at the DL. I wanna see who's getting the double teams. Is it Julius Peppers, or is it Paea. My video on the computer isn't working but in AZs post in another thread he said that the guy was talking about Paea playing well.

I'd rather see CB/S in the first. I don't know if they will Melton back. His asset was being able to pentrate using speed and he may have lost some of that. I think they take a page out of our blocking philosphy and realize you need to wreck havoc up front in the middle (Fairly, Suh, and Raghi). Thats why they wanted Long inside. This draft has a lot of CB talent, maybe we go that route or take a flyer on a guy that made it to the 2nd?

My video on the computer isn't working but in AZs post in another thread he said that the guy was talking about Paea playing well. well it's certainly just my opinion and i have no tape to review, but this is what i have observed... there is no forward movement more times than not at the snap. he is getting stood up and locked in with the guard or center. as small as he is he should be getting under the pads of the guard for leverage and not visa-versa. he has a grand total of 5 sacks in 3 years (1/2 sack this season). i believe the AVERAGE sacks per season for a DT is around three. that is a pathetic statistic considering he is starting next to pepperman who prior to this season was getting double teamed nearly every play. i 'believe' the average tackles per game for an NFL DT is two. he has 31 tackles in three years (not counting assists). what sold it to me was i believe it was against the packers. the left guard for green bay locked up with pea and moved him down the entire length of the offensive line. he ended up in front of or beyond the offensive right tackle. that was one of the plays green bay ripped it up the middle for BIG yardage. it is not something i have ever seen that a defensive tackle looked like he was on ice and shoved that far being manhandled by a guard. so for me... he is a bust unless he has some kind of awakening and something drastic causes a change. You're looking at DTs as a whole, like I said, nose tackles don't put up big numbers...For example, Pat Williams, who is one of the better 4-3 nose tackles of the last decade has only put up more than the 2.5 sacks Paea got last year 1 time in his career(3 his rookie season) and he's been playing on the same line with Jared Allen....Last year Tampa was 2nd against the run(using them because they run a 4-3) and their NT had a grand total of 24 tackles and no sacks. The Bears also implement a rotation on the DL so he doesn't play every snap, so his numbers are watered down from that as well. Is Paea replaceable? Ya, sure. Is nose tackle even in the top 3 of our defensive concerns? not at all. Bears have much bigger concerns starting right next to him at the 3-technique and then all over the secondary. Don't forget, it was just last year that the bears were in the top 10 against the run and Stephen Paea was our starting NT. In closing, they're far from "in deep shit", or whatever colorful language you used, if they have to play Paea at NT.
