Q: Why is Cutler starting? A: Because there's an old tradition that the starter does not lose his job to injury. Why? It's a message of loyalty and confidence to the team. Nobody wants to sacrifice their body for a coach or team with the thought that their standing will be lost during rehab. A: Because they need more film on Cutler. Why? Smith vs Kaepernick. Why? Smith was 7-0 and the highest rated QB in the NFL then loses his job to Kaepernick. SF goes on to the SB as favorite and were beaten soundly until the power outage. Karma's a bitch. Add to that my personal belief that Smith was and still is the better QB. Why x2? They know what they have in McCown AND what he can be signed for in the off season. That question has not been answered for Cutler. Why? Cutler got hurt as the offense was starting to gel. New scheme, new OL, new coaches simply take a season. Q: Why not ride the hot hand? A: See above Also, Emery and Trestman have a huge decision that will affect the next 5-8 years of the franchise. If Cutler were the only off season priority, it would still not be easy. That question has not been answered for Cutler. Why? Cutler got hurt as the offense was starting to gel. New scheme, new OL, new coaches simply take a season. i think people may be surprised what it will cost to sign mccown. there are a LOT of teams out there looking for a good qb this offseason to START. that is not counting what other teams with GOOD qb's will pay for a #2 that can play like mccnown has this season. think of the bronco's in this qb merry-go-round for a manning backup who can win. thus if we dumped cutler we will have to pay mccown STARTER money and draft high to replace him. if we keep him we will have to up the ante to keep him as a #2. mccown who probably is grateful to chicago for this opportunity HAS to think of his family and finances first. so be prepared. The offense is now hitting stride, something that would take time, not expected at the beginning of the season. They have seen what McCown could do with the beasts that the Bears have and now need to see what Cutler can do. B. Goes with A, the Bears are going to be making a huge decision this off season. They need as much game film on Cutler to make the best decision. C. IF they can get Cutler to be whole game Jay and not 4th quarter Jay we could have one of the best O's in the league. His stats are so different in the 2nd and 3rd compared to the 1st and 4th quarters. Trestman has seen everything when it comes to Jay, practice, film study and games. He knows what was called on each play, when Jay made a bad decision or bad throw or when the WR screwed up. He has the best or most insight on Jay. If Trestman already knows that he can take Jay to the Elite level then there is no doubt Jay starts when he is healthy. Kind of like Aaron Rodgers, it doesn't matter how good Flynn looks when Aaron is healthy he is starting. I told someone (who didn't really give a shit) that it was almost like Jay was a rookie and the coaches were throwing him out there to learn. Now, obviously Jay is far from a rookie but as to this particular offense and the discipline Trestman desires, this is all new to Jay. And I couldn't agree with you more on your comments. Trestman is "all knowing" when it comes to each and every play. So if they put out the big bucks for Jay this winter, it's because Trestman and Emery agree Jay can be as good, or better, than Rodgers.
