Rodgers In

I think the only thing that will change with GB with Rogers coming back is they will be:

Forced to keep extra protection for Rogers in the backfield

Rogers will be less likely to take off running with the ball

If he is smart and his protection breaks down (and our D actually applies pressure) he will pull the trigger a bit quicker to avoid the sack

Our defense had also better watch out because after knocking Rogers out of the lineup the last time we played GB and his return this week, I am sure the refs will call anything remotely looking like "roughing the QB" against the Bears D.

One thing in our favor for the defense: Everyone is down on the Bears right now after the showing at Philly. We've already played the Packers, and in fact we've played against this same offense for years. When you consider Briggs was in his first game back at Philly he was against an offense he had never seen before. Yes he was rusty but he was also among the lost out there. He has played Green Bay and knows exactly what they will do. I expect Briggs to have a much better game and also to have a much better impact on the rest of the defense in terms of alignment and assignment. The others, having been run over multiple times by Lacy should also be fully ready for what's coming.

I'm not saying we'll shut them down. That's not possible with this group. I do think we'll be more competitive than everyone is expecting and this will give our offense a chance to win it for us but it will still take at least 30pts to do so. That's territory this offense is capable of.

Good points and the last one is one that has crossed my mind. Rodgers already gets preferential treatment being a marquee player coming back from an injury they'll probably give him the "marquee plus" treatment plan that ensures at least one phantom roughing for breathing on, looking at him funny, or some such crap. But knowing that the packers will probably get beneficial officiating as if it were in cheeseland. At the end of the day the onus is going to be on the Bears. They looked like crud on both sides of the ball and special teams last week. we were -2 in the turnover dept (one of them going for 6). We didn't stop the run, we didn't stop the pass, Harry and Loyd from dumb and dumber would have played better last week.

I think your right that the pack will use max protect more than normal so it's going to be hard to get pressure if our line play this year is any indication. But if we can get a solid game out of Peppers, Radcliff, Shea, Pea, wooten etc. The key on D will be if our line can step up and disrupt him but also play with better discipline in the run game. As you point out Rodgers is not stupid he's going to do what he needs to do to stay upright for 4 quarters. And he won't be afraid to get the ball out quick or throw it away. The our secondary is going to have to have one of it's best games, as Rodgers has a nack for fitting the ball into tiny windows accurately, so our habit of giving quarterbacks huge picture windows to throw through coverage needs to be tighter.

On offense it we need to use ball control. Good mix of run/pass long sustained scoring drives. When we've been successful we've usually dominated time of possession. Rodgers and the packer offense can't score from the sidelines. So we need long time consuming drives. Jay needs to spread the ball around better. His tendency to force it to Marshall only makes their job easier. A good mixture in targets will make it tough to know who to defend, which is why we got Bennet, and drafted Jeffery to go with Marshall. Lastly but not leastly, the line must protect Jay and give him time as well as open holes for Forte.

A loss should be unacceptable to the players. And IMO would rival the collapse of last season. With two games to go in an up and down season we have a shot to clinch the division against the Eagles. The table was set perfectly. We blew it big time. Now we have a second chance to clinch the division and knock out the Pukers at home.

I feel the only thing that could stop Rodgers from beating us is a hard hit to KO him again. And the need for our offense to put up points. They will get theirs. Can we get ours?

And if it's SMC again I will buy his jersey the very next day.
