Wow. I just commented on this in another post. Does Biggs know this because of the brother factor? The NFL does a damn good job of making sure signings are not leaked. I agree Biggs thinks he knows what's going to happen. How can he report it? That being said, I agree with exactly what you said. I hope it is correct and I hope it doesn't set us back too much financially. Biggs also thinks we are cutting Peppers. I know it's inevitable and impractical, but wouldn't it be nice to have Peppers and Bennett???

I think this deal was done a while ago, we had Marty to thank for that. He's been pressing on this for a long time.

scs787
Ya, it wouldn't surpise me if this deal was done within the first hour of the non tampering period. With the flexibility in the Cutler/Jennings/Slausson deals, I think they'll be fine financially. With the cap increasing the next 2 years I would have no problem dipping into those contracts and spreading out the cap hits.
AZ54
If we sign Bennett I expect he'll get a very big bonus in yr 2 of the contract, maybe another one guaranteed in yr 3. If we sign him for $80 million I'll be throwing a fit…which usually means drinking another beer.

He simply not worth that kind of money just because he is the best this year. Im all for him being here and its not my money, but this will strap us for other good players. We are all speculating so were 36 hours away from all of this. The Bears are usually tight lipped so this surprises me if it leaked out. As soon as Marty said he wanted his brother to play here, this was a no brainer, it was just about the money.

adam
This will be huge for us as we need some impact players on defense (crazy saying that about a Bears team).

Guest TerraTor
I really find it hard to believe they are gonna pay this guy big money. He's a small cog in that Defense's success. .. Then again we paid cutler like he's Elite too..
DABEARSDABOMB
A lot can happen between now and Tuesday when it can be announced. I have my fingers cross as this would fill a major need. I hope the money is fair (for both sides; my fear is it is more fair for Michael then the Bears). I also then hope we can get the right depth to not have Bennett playing 700+ snaps like Julius has had to. I also hope we can get the 60+ pressures / year from Michael like he did last year. If we do, he'll be worth every penny!!!
scs787
The way I'm looking at it now, from a financial standpoint, what if Peppers had a year like Bennett, and don't let the sack numbers fool you Bennett>>>>Peppers? Would you still cut him? Would you just restructure his deal and push the cap problems back another year? How much cap would you really free if you did that? What would that be in relative to what Bennett is gonna make? If Peppers was the player Bennett was I think we'd still be in same position cap wise. If Peppers had 60 pressures, I'd try to renegotiate and extend him to get him more cash and us better cap treatment. I'm not getting rid of a very productive DE but I don't think Peppers is worth the cap savings (e.g., I'd rather get 10M in cap space to invest other ways then Peppers based upon last years production). If he'd renegotiate, I would be interested. I'd still be interested in Jared Allen at the right price too because we've seen veteran pass rushers can still be very productive (and often times sign for a much fairer deal). We need to improve our pass rush and I would be fully support of Allen & Bennett, letting Melton walk (and drafting a DT). I also wouldn't even be opposed to signing those guys and still taking a DE in first round. Depth is needed on the line as is a strong pass rush, no reason to not take Dline in the 1st round. However, if you can make some moves, there are also some really good CB's who might be on the board as well.

He's under contract for next year as well and he'll be 35 then. If you extend him, how much are you gonna pay for a 36 year old? Also Schefter drops this on us.... Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 53s Seahawks have emerged as the favorite to land free-agent DT Michael Bennett, and keep him in Seattle, per sources. Announcement could come today. That'd be a buzz kill. Lovie and the Bucs are rollin in money and really want Johnson as well so he might not be an option either. L. Houston is interesting I guess. scs787
Justin Tuck? Since Bennett doesn't look like he is going to leave Seattle? Could be a good option as well. Brad Biggs @BradBiggs 2m One source says #Bears offering $8.5 million per year for Michael Bennett and #Seahawks at $8 million annually. That is word around league. That'd be wild considering what Griffen just got.
Guest TerraTor
Honestly Bennett isn't worth that. . So let's hope it's true. He's the cream of a crap crop. .. The DL in draft can provide the same if not Better than bennett Anyway. .

Guest TerraTor
Oh terrator you silly silly man. Yes I'm an idiot. A 6-9 sack guy who played in super bowl on a defense that blitzes constantly and had best Secondary around Teams do this dumb shit all the time. Look at all the turds from the SBowl Defenses... especially Giants that got big money and disappear

I would like this addition if we missed on Johnson and Bennett. Tuck would bring good leadership and it doesn't hurt he is a ND man!!! Love the Irish. Had 44 the year before in Tampa.....There's a reason why PFF had him as their 7th ranked DE in 2012 and 5th best last year.

I like both those guys, I was expecting more out of Tuitt this past year but it seems the injury he played through may have caused more problems then reported.
