Thank you chicago for the best 5 years of my life!.... I can't wait to begin the next chapter of my life... With a star on my helmet.

Well damn.

I still like the idea of bringing in Pat Sims. He's not quite the penetrater Melton is but he is capable of pushing the pocket and he's solid against the run.

If they don't sign a guy I'm really hoping Donald falls. Jerrnigan would be nice but we need a guy who's gonna get after the QB.

I think Dallas is much more desperate than Chicago at this point especially after inexplicably releasing Ware. Bringing Melton in adds a little luster (former pro-bowler, younger and local) to an otherwise ticked off fan base. I personally don't think he'll last all that long with his knee. I wish the best for him.

* EDIT: Jared Allen anyone?

scs I'm a little confused. I've looked at quite a few mocks and most have Donald right there for the Bears and since versatility is the theme and now the Cowboys signing Melton and Tampa solid at DT, I can only see maybe the Vikings going after Donald to replace Williams.WTHBS The Bears should have their choice of the top 2 DTs atleast one of the top 2 safeties and one of the top 2 CBs.

I've seen a few mocks have the Giants drafting him to replace Linval Joesph, I've seen a few having the Rams take him (they had Melton in for a visit), and I've seen a few having the Titans(paper thin at DT) taking him.

I think all of those, and perhaps the Vikings like you stated are all possibilities. If he slips past those teams I think he's a lock for the Bears.

Report is Melton was only looking for 4 mill which is less than I expected.

If the Giants don't protect their $20mil QB nothing they do anywhere else in the draft will matter. I don't see them gambling on a lightweight DT that high in the draft.

AND the Vikings need a QB.

Ya those 2 are the least likely of the ones I listed. Depending on how the draft shakes out

There should be a real good chance that Donald is there, but the hype he's been getting it wouldn't surprise me if he's gone.

If he's gone I might consider trading down or going with Dix/Pryor then taking a guy like Dom Easley who I think would help more than Jernigan.

BTW last 2 mocks on CBs have Jernigan as the 32nd pick in one and a 2nd round pick in another. If they do trade down I'd love to get Jernigan AND Easley.

I'd love to see that. Our defense is lacking an impact player. We signed a bunch of good quality guys who overall are just "meh" compared to other defenses. On opening day last year you had to at least think about double teaming Julius Peppers and also Henry Melton. Willie Young and Lamarr Houston won't draw that kind of attention.

Phil Emery talked about wanting to put more pressure on the QB. Heck, I actually liked Shea strictly as a speed rusher off the edge. The problem is, when he was successful at that there was no other pressure.

Right now the face of our defense is Lance Briggs. The last time he was on the field he looked old and fat.

That being said, there's no indication we are going to make a run at Jared Allen. I'm guessing he will cost 2 years, 20 million with 10 guaranteed. That's slightly more than Peppers received which sounds about right.

If he is it will be at Emery's price. I highly doubt we'd pay him $10mil/yr (for one we don't even have the cap space). He's certainly not worth more than what Peppers received as he's not that good playing the run. Peppers is not even worth what he received. I'd say Allen ends up earning around $5mil/yr. I would love the trio of Houston, Young, and Allen as the 3rd man in the rotation. Much better edge rushing than anything we saw last year. Draft Donald, kick Houston inside on 3rd and long with Allen and Young off the edge and we will get pressure…quickly.

That would absolutely increase our sack total,as a matter of fact, I could see us pushing the top 10 in the league.

I wanted Melton back but feel he has been very inconsistent over his career thus far. Remember, Melton was another draft pick who came to the pros to play a position he did not play in college.

So, I agree with the premise that it is probably best that the Bears will need to move on from Henry.

We need to reload the Defense in the first 4 rounds and draft best player available S, CB, DT, DE. If trading back happens it would be great to add two S, two CB and a DT, DE and MLB then draft TE / RB / QB in later rounds.

I read a Rapaport tweet that his contract is a 1 yr 5 mil, and if he is there a year and a day it turns into a 3 year additional at 8 per year with 9 guaranteed

I wanted him back but there was no need for us to go that high for Melton. Year 1 not bad, but that escalation kills it IMO. He can be just "good to very good" with say 5-6 sacks and are you really going to cut him? He's not that good in run defense, not like an $8-9mil/yr player should be. I will carefully watch what Collins does this year versus Melton but I'm thinking we'll get a lot more value for our money.

I would love Jared Allen too. Hell I love watching him play already!

Read an article where Melton said The Bears told him to test the market and let us know. Melton responded by saying they don't do business like that and that the Bears were never really in it. So the Bears never made an offer or had a chance to match the Cowboys offer.

I would have liked Melton back but am not broken up about it. Who knows if he will have the burst he used to have after the ACL. I played college ball, blew my ACL, LCL, LCL Capsule and hamstring tendon. I lost some of my burst. I played with a bunch of guys that tore their ACL's. Some guys didn't lose a step some did. There is no guarantee he will be as quick as he was before the injury.
